Bethlehem Housing Authority

This agency provides a rental assistance program which allows a tenant to rent an apartment while only paying a percentage of rent. Individuals who are income eligible and are either a head of family, or is handicapped or disabled may be eligible for services. Rent is based on 30% of your adjusted annual income and assets. Public Housing residents must perform community service for a minimum of eight hours each month (excluding seniors, individuals with disability, children under the age of 18, caregivers, and those employed at least 30 hours per week).

Earned Income Tax Credit: this is a tax credit for people who work, but do not have high incomes. Qualifying individuals must meet certain rules and file a tax return. Eligibility varies and depends on total earnings, and other income and considerations.

Family Self-Sufficiency: this program is designed to assist families in public housing, and section 8 housing choice voucher programs, to achieve economic independence. They help by removing traditional obstacles to success and by improving life skills and providing job training, career development, and educational opportunity. Participants must be residents with an active lease with the Bethlehem Housing Authority and be in good-standing. Each participating family enters a five-year contract. An escrow saving account will be established for the duration of participation. Families also benefit from case management services.
