Beyond Literacy

This organization provides opportunities for adults and families by helping to provide free, high-quality education. Their adult basic education program helps adults improve their reading, writing, math, science, and social studies skills. These services are offered via in-person, remote, or hybrid instruction. Their English as a Second Language courses are offered to immigrant families with limited English proficiency to help individuals improve their English skills while learning about U.S. culture, daily life, civics, and history. Their computer basics and digital skills workshops are offered at locations throughout Philadelphia (https://beyondliteracy.org/digitalskills/), and provide free workshops on a variety of topics. Their workforce test-prep offers no-cost classes via evening Zooms. Participants must have a High School Equivalency Diploma (GED or Hi-SET) or High School Diploma to participate in classes. Their pre-apprenticeships programs help prepare adult learners with classroom instruction and hands-on experience with the trades while simultaneously gaining their GED. They also provide post-secondary education options through low-cost programs in a variety of majors.
