
Butler County Area Agency on Aging
This agency serves residents of Butler County aged 60 and over, and their families. Some services may have a cost associated with them.
PA MEDI: appointment-only counseling with specially trained staff who provide unbiased, easy-to-understand information on Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement plans, long-term care insurance, and prescription drug coverage.
Community Assessments: assessments for individuals 60+ to determine eligibility for Pennsylvania Department of Aging and Public Welfare programs, and for individuals under 60 for certain Public Welfare programs.
Nursing Facility Assessments: determines whether an individual needs nursing facility care. If medically eligible, the County Assistance Office determines financial eligibility for payment assistance.
Family Caregiver Support Program: supports caregivers of functionally dependent adults age 60+ or individuals with chronic dementia. Eligible caregivers may receive up to $600/month reimbursement for approved goods and services based on need, income, expenses, and available funds. Caregivers may be under 60; household income must not exceed 380% of poverty level.
Grandparent Support Program: assists relatives age 55+ who are primary caregivers for family members under 18 living in the same household. Includes home assessment and possible reimbursement for approved services and supplies based on need and finances.
Health & Wellness: community-based healthy lifestyle programs offered at senior centers and community sites, including fall prevention, chronic disease self-management, and exercise programs.
Ombudsman Services: investigates and resolves complaints for older adults in nursing homes, personal care homes, domiciliary care homes, or receiving long-term care services. Advocates for resident rights and quality care improvements.
Options Program: home and community-based services to help consumers remain at home. Sliding-fee scale for eligible individuals. Services may include adult day care, care management, in-home meals, personal care, and emergency response systems.
Person Centered Counseling: free service connecting Pennsylvanians to public benefits and private resources. Helps identify long-term support options, secure services, and provides follow-up. Available to adults 60+ and individuals with physical, behavioral, or developmental disabilities.
Public Benefit Programs: free assistance with benefits such as SNAP, LIHEAP, and property tax/rent rebate. Also offers Farmer’s Market Nutrition Vouchers (June–September) and flu vaccine clinics (September–October).
Waiver Programs: home and community-based long-term care as an alternative to nursing home placement, funded through Medicaid waiver programs. Eligibility includes age 60+, Butler County residency, citizenship/qualified non-citizen status, medical and financial eligibility, and choosing home care over nursing home placement. Married applicants’ and spouses’ assets are considered.
Legal Assistance: available through the legal referral program waitlist. Services may include consumer rights advice, housing disputes, advance directives, power of attorney, legal evaluations, guardianship issues, benefit office intervention, civil rights protection, and wills.
