Laurel House
Laurel House is a domestic violence agency serving individuals, families, and communities throughout Montgomery County. Their housing services include an emergency shelter and transitional housing. Their supportive services include counseling and a children’s program. They also have a Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART).
Housing: Their emergency shelter provides a safe place for victims of domestic abuse, and their children. While at the emergency shelter, individuals are provided with services free of charge, including: up to 30 days of emergency shelter; individual and group counseling; advocacy services; case management; legal representation; and food, clothing, toiletries, linens, and more. They operate two transitional housing programs, which provide a “bridge” between their shelter and independent community living. Nehemiah’s Way is based out of the North Wales area and the Bridge Housing Program is in the Norristown area. Participants in this program can stay for up to two years at one of seven scattered houses/apartments. During their time in the transitional housing program, residents will receive: weekly case management, group counseling, life skills training, emergency financial assistance, children’s services, and connections to community resources.
Supportive Services: They offer individual counseling to survivors aged 14 and older who have experienced abuse from an intimate partner or dating violence, and minors 14 and older affected by domestic abuse in their homes. They run support groups for those who have received counseling services, or are currently, with Laurel House or an outside clinician. A meeting with a Laurel House counselor is required prior to joining a support group. Advocates can be reached anytime at 215-852-9826 or through law enforcement or medical referrals. Their children’s program supports youth through counseling and group activities while helping parents address their children’s emotional and developmental needs.
DART: helps survivors navigate the legal system and is available 24/7. Advocates provide court accompaniment for temporary, emergency, and final PFAs; connect clients to courthouse childcare; coordinate with criminal justice partners; and offer referrals for legal assistance, housing, food, and transportation. DART can be reached anytime at 215-852-9826 or through law enforcement or medical referral.
