Merakey – Allegheny Valley School – Hummelstown Campus

This is a non-profit organization which provides homes and a full range of services to individuals with all levels of intellectual and developmental disabilities. An individualized plan of care is developed for each person with the goal of achieving their highest level of independence, while enhancing quality of life. Services range from physical, occupational and communication therapies to vocational training and employment support. Therapeutic activities and developmental training focus on sensory, environmental and pre-vocational skill development.

Campus Living: individuals have the opportunity to live with peers while receiving 24-hour nursing care and respiratory services. Individuals live in residences that allow them to experience a warm atmosphere similar to the one they would have at home. They also have the freedom to personalize their living space.

Adult Training Program: offers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities an opportunity to enhance their capacity to achieve. Services are designed to promote various therapeutic programs, pre-vocational, vocational and independent living skills. The program is individualized and concentrates on cognitive, communication and physical development, and environmental and sensory awareness. Employment opportunities are promoted as well.

Sensory Program: this program is a comprehensive tool that is designed to identify the characteristics of an individual’s sensory processing, and guide the development and implementation of sensory-based interventions and programming.

Assistive Technology: assistive technology projects include: communication technology which enables nearly 300 individuals to safely utilize the internet and email; smart homes that promote greater independence; remote patient support; telepsychiatry; and measuring biometrics at a kiosk.
