Philly House

They offer overnight emergency shelter for men, allowing guests to stay for 30 days at a time. They also offer select services to women at their 13th street location (such as meals and showers).

Their Next Level Program is a 12-month transitional housing program available to emergency shelter guests that are seeking stability, spiritual development, and long-term success. Men in the Next Level Program maintain up to a one-year residency at Philly House in “dorm style residents” on the 4th floor. To enter the Next Level program residents have verified full-time employment or have income from other sources. Each resident is expected to pay a program fee of 40% of their total monthly income. Philly House sets up a savings escrow account for each resident by depositing 20% of the program fee while living in the program. When a man leaves the program, he receives these funds. Residents attend monthly bible studies and participate in weekly case management as they begin to rebuild relationships, reconnect with the community and gain the resources they need for lasting success.

They serve meals 365 days/year open to anyone regardless of any personal factors. Their breakfast is open only to their registered shelter guests from 7-8am. Their lunch and dinner are open to the general population from 12-1pm and 5-6pm. For ‘after-hours’ or on weekends, contact the Mike Hinson Resource Center at (267) 737-9099 for information and/or resources. For all institutional discharges (hospitals, prisons, etc.), an “External Agency Referral Form” must be submitted to Philadelphia’s Office of Homeless Services. For more information – email or call: OHSRDCintake@phila.gov or (215) 686-5671.

They also offer spiritual care, behavioral health, physical health services, legal services, job placements, art + music, and a spiritual recovery program for men and women experiencing homelessness. Their spiritual care services include: Bible studies, prayer groups, morning devotions, church and one-on-one meetings. Their behavioral health services include: peer to peer support groups, one-on-one care, and weekly field trips. Their physical health services provide weekly full service medical services at Philly House every Tuesday from 5pm-9:30pm and a bi-weekly foot clinic for guests every other Thursday from 5:30pm-8:00pm. They are also partnered with the Homeless Advocacy Project who provides monthly civil legal clinics at Philly House. HAP’s services include accessing benefits like SSI and SNAP; obtaining Veterans benefits, health care, and discharge upgrades; enforcing family law rights; securing shelter and other supportive services; and replacing or correcting identity documents. They also partner with first steps staffing, which aims to employ those who struggle most to break their own cycles of poverty, giving preference to those who have recently experienced homelessness, military veterans, and individuals who have been previously incarcerated. They partner with Wilma Theater Portable Studio to engage guests in storytelling, poetry, songwriting and tangible art projects by giving voice to those in the margins. The Curtis Institute for Music educates and trains exceptionally gifted young musicians to engage a local and global community through the highest level of artistry. Curtis provides interactive performances at Philly House. Performances include a discussion with their guests engaging them in expressing how particular pieces of music make them feel, musical history and some musical theory.

Their Spiritual Recovery Program is a one-year residential treatment program for addiction. Participants live at Philly House in a 12-Step therapeutic community. They’ll be immersed in a culture of healing and wellness that meets their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs through four timed phases: Seeds of Hope, Alpha, Omega and Life Prep. Full clinical counseling and therapy is provided to each participant by a third-party behavioral and mental health partner at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
