Back On My Feet – Philadelphia
This organization empowers people experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders to transform their lives and achieve self-sufficiency through the power of running, community, and support services. Members begin their journey by committing to run 2-3 days a week. Through morning runs and walks, relationships that last a lifetime are built, soft skills are developed, and a sense of mutual accountability is fostered.
Circle Ups: members run 1-3 miles on a regular schedule. In addition to physical health benefits and discipline, members are introduced to an open, welcoming community.
Mentorship and Resources: members collaborate with program staff to create a personalized roadmap towards independence. Each member is offered financial literacy classes and job skills training. They also provide resources to help members overcome barriers to employment and housing, such as access to work supplies, transportation, and security deposits.
Lifelong Support: members who successfully secure employment graduate and are considered alumni, but remain integral members of the community. They continue to have access to ongoing support and resources.
